36 beers later : les résultats du 5ème Concours du Brasseur Amateur de Nice
The 5th and latest edition of Nice's very own Concours du Brasseur Amateur was held on Saturday 19th of Novembre at the local Brewdog.
This year's edition was our most successful yet... with 36 home-brewed beers submitted, the judges definitely had their work cut out for them !
Similarly to last year, home-brewers could submit their creations by category :
bières de blé
bières pale
bières houblonnées
bières aromatisées
bières maltées et torréfiées
Last year the jury saw a majority of hoppy beers submitted, and the year before that there was an emphasis on saison and farmhouse beers.
All five categories where evenly distributed this year, with 6-7 beers in each category - with the exception of the 'houblonnées' category which had 10 beers.
The jury was composed of craft beer professionals :
Rémi, brewer
Brasserie La Mentounasc
Guillaume, brewer
Brasserie des Ligures
Stephan, brewer
Brasserie Indépendante du Mangiabo
Luc, brewer
Noiseless Beers
Iaci, brewer
AM beers
Their in-depth knowledge and passion for beer & brewing were key for tasting, analysing and grading each home-brew according to the BJCP Beer Style Guidelines.
Prizes included a day of brewing in a professional brewery courtesy of the Brasserie des Ligures; a 10€ gift card to be spent at Allez Hops cave à bière; brewing and bottling equipment courtesy of local craft breweries; brewing ingredients; a bottle of artisanal gin crafted by Noiseless beers; t-shirts, packs of beer, bottle openers... all things beer!
